Faux and fresh have opposite strengths. Faux is reliable, early, durable and reusable. Fresh is convincing at close range, scented and alive.
Putting each where its strength matters gets more than committing to one.
The Usual Division
- Faux for structural work: arches, garlands, hanging installations
- Faux for anything built in advance or anything that must survive heat
- Faux for aisle petals and scatter, which nobody examines
- Fresh for the bouquet, which is held and photographed closely
- Fresh for the top table, where guests sit nearest
- Fresh for anything scented

Matching Fresh to Faux
The hard part, and it works better in one direction than the other.
Choose the faux first, since it is fixed and orderable in advance, then take a physical sample to the florist and ask them to match with fresh.
Doing it the other way round means chasing a shade that may not exist in artificial.
Do Not Mix Within One Arrangement
Generally the rule. Fresh and faux side by side in the same bouquet invites comparison, and the faux loses.
Separate pieces in the same palette work far better than a mixed arrangement.
The exception is greenery: faux foliage with fresh flowers is common, works well, and is what many florists do anyway.
Fresh Needs Different Planning
Conditioning, refrigeration, delivery timing and someone to handle it on the morning.
Adding a small amount of fresh reintroduces all of that logistics, which is worth weighing against what it gains.
